Porsche Panamera
Tanzanian Hotel - WOW Architects
'The hotel is comprised of two buildings and its overall design was inspired by geological processes that shape rock formations in nature. It is no surprise that we are fans of the greenery that spills out of the buildings’ windows, but we also found the concept development of this project quite interesting. The architects were inspired by nature’s way of creating hills or mounds, and how these hills are eventually inhabited by living things.
The orientation of the buildings was planned so that sunlight enters the interior courtyard in the center, providing a warm and inviting space for hotel guests to mingle. This layout also gives residents access to views of city, sea and harbor. The interior of the hotel is less accounted for, but we love the project’s use of living green walls. An interior view shows a flight of stairs sheltered only by glass panels will certainly make guests feel as though they are walking up into the light.'

Hilton South Wharf, Melbourne - Woods Bagot
This is the brand spankin' new Hilton in Melbourne, designed by Woods Bagot in association with NH Architecture, that opened this week! It's attached to the new Convention Centre on the banks of the Yarra, which now links the Docklands and Southbank.
It's got 'soaring seven-metre ceilings and timber, huge planks of it on the floor, ceilings and in between. There's steel, some of it rusted; walls of smoky glass; sophisticated, expensive lights; cobblestones; and red-and-brown-striped carpet in Sotano, the tapas bar.'

Crème de la Crème, Lithuania - Plazma Architects
'The store’s physical concept is by the Lithuanian Plazma Architects and specifically architect Evelina Talandzeviciene. Light-colour wood, scarce furnishings, simplified lines and subdued edges create a feeling of weightlessness and free-flowing space.
Felt-covered Tom Dixon lamp shades and tone-on-tone floor and wall materials add to the organic ambiance of the space...reminding us of fields of rye, and forests of birch and fir.
Crisp lighting on the merchandise and simple wall units for display allow the fragrances to take up most of the air space. Unstuffy. Simple. Clean'

'A House' - FKL Architects
'Dublin architects FLK have completed a residence called A House in Dublin, Ireland. Concerns of establishing a relationship with the garden and maximising daylight penetration in a North facing building where East & West facades are blank, dictated the organisation of family rooms at ground and first floor connected by a narrow void. This layout is expressed architecturally as a “slipped tube” of space, coded materially in sandblasted concrete, stratified from front to rear, divided programmatically with joinery boxes. A strong visual and spatial connection is established between the kitchen/dining room at ground level and the study on the first floor capitalising on day lighting and glimpsed views.'

'Link' Urban Scooter System - Anton Grimes
This cool concept is a finalist in the Australian International Design Awards and in the running to take out the James Dyson Award - Gold Winner, as the highest national achiever in the competition.
'The Link scooter system is designed as a modular transport solution that can be retrofitted to existing Streetscape Smart Poles. It allows users to hire a small lightweight electronic scooter from a hub and ride to the desired destination and then return the scooter to another hub, where it is recharged. The use of existing light poles reduces the cost of the unit and provides strong anchors that carry both telecommunications and power to the hub. The device was designed to suit the Sydney 2030 plan to reduce cars in the CBD and make the city more pedestrian oriented.'

A2B Electric Bike
This looks pretty cool...and sure beats pedaling up hills when you don't have to!
'What do you get when you cross a bicycle with an electric scooter? Probably something like Ultra Motor’s “Light Electric Vehicle,” the A2B. Silent and stylish, the A2B is designed for urban and suburban commuters (check out that comfy, oversized seat). It’s like your bicycle, except with a lithium ion battery-powered motor that you can plug in and charge at any ordinary electric socket. And if you run out of power on the road, no worries — just start pedaling.'

Emerald Peacock Restaurant & Bar - Melbourne
“We chose the name, then chose the wallpaper and then worked our designs around these two elements.”
Fond of timber and raw materials, Singh was keen to incorporate wood and metal embellishments in the project. Imported Shand Kydd and vintage wallpapers and eclectic fabrics and furnishings create a decadent, yet brooding space.
The project has been separated into different zones. The ‘retro dining area’ is inspired by vintage posters depicting a number of the world’s cities, while the ‘Peacock lounge’ alludes to ‘old world luxe’ with wallpapers in blue and black peacocks, dark woods and “hand picked fabrics in candy man stripes and panne velvets”. "In the cocktail bar we kept it quite pared back and wanted a luxurious industrial feel, so we polished the concrete floor, covered the walls in another vintage wallpaper (circa 1973) and added thick recycled beams and a wood panelled staircase.”

Kangaroo Valley House - Alexander Michael
'Located in two hours south of Sydney, the Kangaroo Valley house is twenty meters long and 7 meters wide. It was built out of simple readily available materials (concrete, steel, glass and timber), not so much because the builders wished to make a statement, but for practical reasons. In order to get to the site the construction crew had to drive along a precarious winding path, so the project’s robust form and straightforward assembly was a boon.'

Casa Pedralbes - Joan Anguita
'This house in the mountains, designed by the architect Joan Anguita, brings all the glamour of Los Angeles to Barcelona, Spain. Partially suspended above the terrain, it is the dream home of a young businessman who loves collecting cars and organizing gatherings for his friends.
The four-storey structure blends into its environment by means of a transparent glass façade that provides spectacular views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea beyond.
The main body of the house comprises the ground floor and the first floor, which is reserved for social activities. The ground floor displays the owner’s private car collection, while the first floor contains the kitchen, dining room, sitting room and library.'
via: www.archdaily.comSan Pablo House - URBANA
'Architecturally, the resulting house is dominated by a main, squarish volume, defined by the massive, “floating” roof plane, and a series of lesser rectangular bodies that seem to protrude from the larger mass. The frontal façade also features a monumental, triangular Mashrabiya, or screen, which, like the modern brise soleil, or like the native rejas [ironwork], functions both for privacy and ventilation. The posterior façade also features a series of wooden brise soleils that modulate the interior-exterior transition on the rear, and help mitigate the entrance of sunlight. In terms of spatial organization, the larger, main volume houses the public spaces of the residence [living, dining, family room, kitchen], while the private rooms are mainly contained by a secondary, enclosed and partially solid bar-shape structure. The outdoor terrace, pool, and gazebo are conceptually punctured out of the massive, main volume, and are defined by a smaller floating roof, and perforated end wall.'

Cool Hunter Music Forecast 09 - Artists You Should Know
BAG RAIDERS Long seen as the secret weapon in the Australia vs. France electro-war, Sydney's party commanders, Bag Raiders, are hooked-up with the Bang Gang people and A-Trak and destined to shed the 'secret' part of that label this year. We promise
JONATHAN BOULET
It's crazy to think that Jonathan Boulet's rich, floating folk-pop melodies took form in the Australian troubadour's miniscule garage studio. But I suppose that is Boulet's gift, after all the twenty-year old can turn subtle, humble campfire tunes into soaring epics. Next he'll be doing straw into gold and water into wine.
SHAZAM
With Macbooks and Korgs in their hands, bedroom producers are getting younger and better all the time. But the star at the top of the list is Shazam, a 19 year old disco savant out of Australia's West. His glittering party tunes are pool-side bound and deliriously cool, simply demanding you have some fun.
WALE
As if releasing one of the most widely-spread, highly-acclaimed and generally entertaining mix tapes of last year wasn't enough, Wale has assembled a dream team of producers for his debut disc (see: Cool & Dre, Green Lantern, will.i.am, Dave Sitek). If the US MC maintains his ear for good beats and knack for great lyrical turns then the hype should translate into a very solid debut.

UAE 2010 Shanghai Expo Pavilion - Foster + Partner’s
'A golden sand dune-inspired structure begins to take shape as Foster + Partners recently broke ground upon their UAE pavilion for the 2010 Shanghai Expo. A showcase of passive environmental design, the pavilion creates a symbolic reference with the desert landscape over which each of the seven emirates presides. As if modeled by prevailing winds, the pavilion mimics the duality between the rough and smooth sides of a sand dune while making the most of its site. The northern façade allows natural light to filter through its porous structure, while the southern façade is enclosed to minimize heat infiltration during the exhibit.'

Gifted Feat. Kanye West - N.A.S.A.
'The video for N.A.S.A'S single "Gifted" is a morbid intergalactic space affair featuring Kanye West, Lykke Li, and Santogold. It's hard to tell where exactly the inspiration for this video came from, but it's more than appropriate for the eccentric crew who lent their talents to the song.'

Cadillac Converj
'General Motors unveiled a further glimpse at the potential of electric propulsion today, this time in the form of luxury transportation, with the Cadillac Converj Concept. The Cadillac Converj was developed as a well-appointed grand touring coupe with a bold design and a host of interactive technology.
There's no mistaking the Converj for anything but a Cadillac, according to Lutz. "An aggressive, forward-leaning profile hints at a new, progressive theme and proportion in Cadillac's design evolution," he says. "The new proportion showcases a uniquely shaped, modern vision of a personal luxury 2+2."'
